Con un post sul blog dedicato ai webmaster Google ha annunciato di aver deciso di inserire anche la velocità del sito come parametro per il suo algoritmo di ranking.

Per determinare la velocità di un sito rispetto agli altri Google userà una varietà di fonti. Google segnala alcuni tools che i webmaster possono utilizzare per valutare la velocità del proprio sito.

Page Speed, an open source Firefox/Firebug add-on that evaluates the performance of web pages and gives suggestions for improvement.

YSlow, a free tool from Yahoo! that suggests ways to improve website speed.

WebPagetest shows a waterfall view of your pages’ load performance plus an optimization checklist.

In Webmaster Tools, Labs > Site Performance shows the speed of your website as experienced by users around the world as in the chart below. We’ve also blogged about site performance.

Naturalmente la velocità del sito non avrà per Google lo stesso valore della pertinenza della pagina.
Attualmente meno dell’1% delle query sono influenzate dal nuovo parametro (velocità del sito), e il nuovo parametro viene considerato solo sulle ricerche effettuate in inglese su Google.com.
